UF Health encompasses the University of Florida Health Science Center (HSC)—the Southeast’s most comprehensive academic health center—and the Shands family of hospitals and services. With campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville, UF Health includes six health colleges, six research institutes, two teaching hospitals, two specialty hospitals and a host of physician medical practices and outpatient services throughout north central and northeast Florida. Our mission is to promote health through outstanding and high-quality patient care; innovative and rigorous educations in health professions and biomedical sciences; and high-impact research across the spectrum of basic, translational and clinical investigation.
In addition to the colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions and Veterinary Medicine, the system also encompasses six research institutes: the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the McKnight Brain Institute, the Genetics Institute, the UF Health Cancer Center, the Institute on Aging and the Emerging Pathogens Institute.
UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital is a hospital within a hospital on the UF Health Shands campus. UF physicians treat patients from throughout Florida and the United States. We represent the only quaternary-care academic pediatric center in North Florida, and our physicians offer some of the most specialized pediatric programs for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of complex conditions.
UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital has 167 beds, including fully-equipped pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital is part of the Children’s Miracle Network alliance of premier hospitals for children. Our hospital was ranked in the Top 50 Best Children’s Hospitals in 7 specialties in 2014-2015 by U.S. News & World Report.
